About the Conference | Conference Program Conference Registrants
On December 14, 1948, a handful of impresarios gathered at the Hotel Woodstock in New York City to discuss their mutual concerns about the performing arts touring business. After deciding to incorporate as an association, the group elected Patrick Hayes of Washington, DC to be its first president. On December 14, 1997, the International Society for the Performing Arts Foundation will gather at the Crowne Plaza Manhattan in New York City to celebrate our 50 year history and growth to a 700 member, fifty nation association. In the conservatories, studios, and schools of the world today, a new generation of performing artists are developing their talents and technique. The level of excellence in these students which can already be observed is sometimes phenomenal. But who will see and hear their work when the time comes, where will their audience be found? Where in the world are other students learning about the arts, in whose homes are the arts a central part of daily life? Given the enormous power of the arts to open minds, challenge people and, according to some research, actually enhance brain development, why are the arts consistently neglected as a learning tool? Or are they? Are there innovative programs which have had the foresight and creativity to start building the audiences of tomorrow? Are there examples and cases from different countries that could be utilized by many ISPA members? A conference which looks at commitment, education, the fierce challenges of the marketplace, and quality, this meeting picks up where "High Art / Popular Culture" left off last year: the eyes, ears and minds of the beholder. ISPA. December. New York. We have gone together for fifty years. REGISTER NOW to participate in another mind-bending, challenging, disturbing and exhilarating professional meeting and exhibit day dedicated to the top people in our field in the world. Honorary Chair, Patrick Hayes, Washington Performing Arts Society Chair, Judith Arron, Carnegie Hall Committee
