ISPA strives to meet its guiding principles through
annual conferences and meetings, frequent publications, and through awards
and scholarships.
Conferences and Meetings
Two major meetings are held each year designed to explore complex and sometimes controversial subjects as well as to provide a wide variety of opportunities for business and social exchange. Recent topics have been "Arts and Technology", "High Art / Popular Culture" and "The Economy and the Arts."
The Annual Conference takes place in New York, and includes a full day of exhibits by members who are artist managements and consultants.
The location of the International Congress changes each year, with past meetings in:
- Israel
- London
- Amsterdam
- Munich
- Glasgow
- Los Angeles
- Paris
- Vienna
- Sydney
- Toronto
- and Birmingham (England).
Upcoming meetings are planned for Stockholm in 1998.
In addition to the major conferences, regional meetings are periodically scheduled, such as the October 1996 East-West conference in Budapest.
Web Site
ISPA's Internet-based information system is available on the world wide web. With new features added periodically, the site includes a library of ISPA features and news; an exhibit "room" for artist managements, consultants and facilities; job postings in the performing arts field; and a database with complete member information which can be downloaded at no cost. This member service makes ISPA's worldwide network available 24 hours a day.
Publications
The ISPA newsletter, Forum, is published regularly, with news of the membership gathered by six regional editors around the world. Forum includes current news of the membership, plus articles written by guest authors, members of ISPA and the staff.
The complete membership directory is published annually and includes a special section entitled "Who's Who in ISPA," including biographical information and photographs of all registered members.
Awards and Fellowships
The ISPA Foundation offers a variety of special awards, travel grants, recognitions and educational scholarships each year including:
- International Fellowships
which provide matching support for ISPA Member institutions to sponsor a work study or other special consultation program with a senior professional arts manager from another country
- ISPA New Member Fellowships
which provide up to two years of ISPA Member dues and benefits to a new member from an economically depressed country or region
- International Student Residencies
which provide support for a graduate or post-graduate level residency at an ISPA Member institution.
Further information regarding these programs is available from the ISPA office.
ISPA does not offer scholarships for education in performance or other creative disciplines.
Governance and Staff
ISPA is governed by a 25 member international Board of Directors who are elected from the active membership. Policy development takes place at the Board and committee level, and all ISPA members are eligible to serve on committees. The professional management of the association is delegated by the Board to the executive director and other staff as required.
Other Programs
With the rapidly accelerating changes throughout the world, ISPA believes that it is important for its programs to remain flexible and responsive to changing conditions. Each year, therefore, there will be different opportunities for professional development, involvement and participation in special ISPA programs and initiatives. Current examples of such programs include the "network teams" at ISPA conferences, the 21st Century Fund and the International Citation of Merit.
